Static Powder Applicator, also known as a cable powder applicator or cable dusting machine, is a specialized device used to apply talcum powder to cables. Talcum powder is a soft, inert mineral that acts as a lubricant and insulator, protecting cables from friction, wear, and corrosion. Static Powder Applicators are commonly used in the manufacturing and maintenance of electrical cables, particularly for high-voltage and fiber optic cables.

Purpose of Static Powder Applicators for Cables

• Lubrication:  Talcum powder reduces friction between the cable conductors and the cable jacket or insulation, minimizing wear and tear during cable handling and installation.
• Insulation:  Talcum powder provides additional insulation between the cable conductors, preventing electrical short circuits and enhancing the cable’s dielectric strength.
• Moisture Protection:  Talcum powder absorbs moisture, helping to protect cables from corrosion caused by humidity and water exposure.

Advantages of Static Powder Applicators for Cables

• Excess Powder Avoidance:  The machine excess powder application on the cable, thus maintaining the diameter of outer surface and avoidance of lump on the cable.
• Clean Shopfloor:  This machine doesn't allow the powder to spread on the shopfloor because of its design, does maintaining a clean environment.
• Coating Consistency:  The machine helps the cable to be used for further processes smoothly, since the powder is applied on consistently. The user gets enhanced experience during processes like stripping where if there is excess powder it may result in causing dirt on shopfloor and when there is less powder it might cause insulation tear-out.
• Low Air Consumption:  The machine uses less air consumption, thus saving on the cost of production.

Technical Details

General Safety Precautions

• Powder used for coating should be within specification and free of foreign particles like dust, sack fibres, tiny metal or plastic scraps, moisture.
• Earthing should be less than 1V all the time for product and operator safety.
• Dedicated Earth connection to machine is recommended, to get quality of electrostatic principal.
• Moisture or Mist free air must be used in panel to avoid damage to equipment.
